SMSF INFORMATION

This information has been designed around the life cycle of a SMSF member. It provides background information to assist you to understand the regulations upon which tasks are based. Cross references will be provided to reference, calculators, education and report request elements.

Contributory Stage
Some of the questions covered in this section are - How long am I likely to need income in retirement individually and jointly, what assets do I need to accumulate, what limitations will contribution caps impose on my plans.

Transition to Retirement
This can be used for working out both supplementation of income and for tax efficiency.

Use of Capital
This section covers both the new account based pensions and the older designs. Lump sum withdrawals are also covered and associated tax issues.

Age Pension
A small window still exists to optimise entitlements. After that optimisation over the years will require more detailed analysis.

Estate Planning
This section covers recontribution strategies to maximise the exempt conponent on death, when to withdraw capital from the super system, self insurance, anti detriment and much more.

Maintenance Tasks
In this section we cover tax exemption percentages for funds partially in pension mode, component capitalisation at 30 June 2006, adequacy certificates, tax, pension limits, etc.

As usual our focus is on practical computational aspects with as much information as is needed to understand the rationale.
